I had a little chat with Tom and Stef at Big Al's Creative Emporium this afternoon, and the conversation got round to Yorkshire: God's County. The boys pointed out just how many Yorkshiremen worked in the ad industry. I asked them why they thought this was.
"Probably got something to do with Yorkshiremen being able to cut through all the crap and getting down to the basics," said Tom.
I felt some pride when he said that. I mean, I'm a proud Yorkshireman anyway, but I think he is right about being able to 'cut through the crap.' I hope I can do that in the work I do.
Yes, a super pretty, colourful, larger than life poster with bells on might be attention grabbing, but if it lacks a universal truth (or something clever or witty within it) do you think anybody will actually remember it?
God that was a long sentence.

Hi Will - another idea for you...For small and medium sized companies...LATE SPACE AT REDUCED PRICES from big mags....I've researched it quite a bit, and a lot of BUYERS are interested, but not many sellers of the space think it worth their while...however, if you could mail a few of your media contacts (and perhaps get some in the process) and generate a sellers market, the buyers are there for the taking...auctions aren't approved of due to the obvious pitfalls of porn people buying an ad in womans weekly, but via a straight here's the space, come and buy it now ....it would work. I'd do it myself if I had the time and patience to get it up and running....if you want further info, let me know...happy hunting...Lynn :o)
